Shotguns
Types of shotguns include the over-and-under, the side-by-side and the slide action or "pump" guns. Differnt guns will suit differnt levels of experience and types of hunding / clay shooting. We at Halpin's can help you choose just what gun is best for you.
Rifles
The sport of target shooting involves concentration, self-discipline and great self-control. The modern Olympics feature three shooting disciplines
"Small-bore" rifles (of .22 calibre) are generally used at shorter range such as 25 yards but sometimes out to 100 yards, whereas larger rifles (termed "full- bore") are shot at targets over much greater ranges, even up to 1000 yards.
Pistols
Since 1972 until recently, pistol ownership has been effectively impossible in Ireland. Changing regulations mean that .22 free pistols are now permitted once again under controlled circumstances. Free pistol is shot on a standard 50m range. Halpin's welcomes the return of this popular sport and provides everything necessary from Beginner to Olympic hopeful.

For Shotguns, shot sizes are described in ranges based on the size of the individual pellets contained within a cartridge. The size of the animal being hunted generally dictates the size of the shot used. For smaller birds, shot size should range from #7.5 to #8, which are smaller size pellets; for rabbits and pheasants, #6 to #4; and waterfowl, steel or bismuth shot ranging in size from #6 up to T.
